I notice that the Passivhaus Institut has a program in the US to train architects in modeling and certifying passive houses. Presumably one of the trained architects consults with a project architect to ensure that the end product meets Institut standards. So there’s some assurance the built house will actually deliver the promised performance.
Anyone know how that’s done in NZ?
Thanks.

Hi Steve,
There are a couple of certified PH designer in the US, and a lot more in Europe (see http://www.passivhausplaner.eu/planersuche.html for a list applicable to Germany as an example).
Currently, there is no such qualification process for NZ. We hope to be able to offer a Certified Passive House Designer programme in the near future.
Buildings can be certified using overseas certification agencies. Again: we hope to have the first certified PH built in NZ soon (certified by the PHI in Germany). Further on, a certification agency in NZ might be the next step. Stay tuned!
